Why Oakmeade Prep and Academy?
Welcome to Oakmeade Prep and Academy - a nurturing environment where vibrant learning meets compassionate guidance; empowering learners to excel academically and thrive personally. Our commitment to holistic development ensures every child's journey is marked by curiosity, leadership, and well-being.
Academic Excellence in a Stimulating Environment
In a vibrant setting, Oakmeade Prep and Academy guides young learners on a journey to acquire foundational skills. Beginning in Grade R, the emphasis on numeracy, literacy, and social-emotional development creates a well-rounded learning experience. Through play and hands-on activities, learners are consistently challenged to unlock their potential, and grow into the best version of themselves.
By Grade 3, essential reading skills are mastered, laying the groundwork for sustained academic success. The curriculum adapts from Grade 4 onwards, introducing new subjects such as Natural Sciences and Technology and Social Sciences; evolving to meet community needs and global standards. Oakmeade's overarching goal is to instill lifelong curiosity, with classrooms equipped for optimal learning.
In the senior school, we develop autonomous and critical thinking skills which paves the way for a successful matriculation and life-long journey of learning and growth. From Grade R to Matric, we follow the National Curriculum and in grade 12, learners sit the Independent Examinations Board's (IEB) National Senior Certificate Examination. Our highly qualified, SACE-registered staff engage in continuous professional development, ensuring a dynamic and creative learning environment.
Leadership Development at Oakmeade: Nurturing Tomorrow's Leaders
In the junior school, learners are introduced to informal leadership opportunities through small duties and responsibilities in everyday activities and group projects. As they progress through the intermediate and senior school, more structured leadership roles emerge, such as class, sporting and house captains as well as monitors.
The senior school provides many opportunities for leadership identification and development. Through courses, workshops and school involvement, learners identify their areas of strength and skill, develop the ability to influence their peers positively and execute projects of leadership.
When learners reach grade 11, they may apply for a formal leadership role in the school under a portfolio of their choosing. The application process for leadership mimics that of the real world, thus developing essential life skills and strong character.
Holistic Well-Being: Fostering a Supportive Learning Environment at Oakmeade
At Oakmeade, we take pride in cultivating a compassionate and inclusive learning environment where each learner is valued as an individual. Recognising the pivotal role of a healthy psycho-social setting in learning and growth, our dedicated staff go beyond academics to prioritise learner wellness.
Central to our philosophy is the belief that successful academic engagement begins with a foundation of care. As educators, we treat every learner with respect, empathy, and an understanding of their unique experiences. This holistic approach aims to foster spiritual, social, and physical growth both inside and outside the classroom, preparing our learners for the demands of school as well as the world at large.
To achieve holistic wellness, Oakmeade implements various programmes, including a strong house system, a welcoming mentorship programme for new learners, and a high-school ‘big brother/sister programme, promoting valued relationships across grades. Our intentional leadership development and structured academic support initiatives, further enrich the well-being of our learners. At Oakmeade, we are committed to providing a nurturing environment that prioritises the overall well-being of every learner.
Community Engagement: Shaping Responsible Leaders at Oakmeade
At Oakmeade, we champion the belief that a child's development flourishes through active community service and involvement. Engaging in such initiatives not only boosts learners' self-esteem but also provides them with safe and healthy avenues to explore the world beyond the classroom.
We firmly advocate for every learner to have the opportunity to grow holistically - cultivating character, shaping personality, and realising personal potential - simultaneously contributing to the community. Throughout the year we intentionally use our time, skills and resources to meet the needs of our community, and when our senior learners apply for leadership, hours spent in community service are an essential part of the application process.
Service stands as one of the four pillars of Oakmeade's ethos, reflecting our steadfast commitment to making a tangible impact in our community. Through community involvement, we instill values of responsibility, empathy, and active citizenship, preparing our learners to become compassionate leaders, dedicated to positive change.
